Jeffrey Romero Middents
Jeffrey Romero Middents is Associate Professor of Literature at American University in Washington, DC, USA, where he studies and teaches film and world literature, specifically focusing on Latin American and transnational narratives from the 1960s to the present. He has published – in written and video forms – on a variety of topics, including the role of film journal Hablemos de Cine in the articulation of Peruvian national cinema in the late 20th Century, the depiction of the indigenous through the work of movie stars Dolores del Rio and Magaly Solier, the pedagogy of using video criticism to teach world cinema, the conflicting Spanish- and English-language receptions to Claudia Llosa’s Aloft, and the intersection between the spectator and the cinema academic. He is currently writing a monograph on transnational auteurism and the director Alfonso Cuarón.
