Andreas Halskov kaster et blik på lydens eller rettere stilhedens rolle i forskellige arthouse- og mainstreamfilm. Med udgangspunkt i så forskellige værker som Ikiru (1952), Bande à part (1964), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), Apocalypse Now (1979) og Lost Highway (1997) optegner Halskov tre forskellige former for stilhed, hhv. dramatisk stilhed, subjektiv stilhed og distancerende stilhed. Stilhed forstås relativt, men i flere af eksemplerne er der såmænd tale om absolut stilhed.
